Remington College provides the ideal setting for individuals who prefer campus to online education. The Broadway Avenue branch is where I attended, and I found the staff to be quite accommodating to student needs.
1. Class Size. One of the advantages that draws students to Remington College is it’s small class sizes. I was aware of this upon enrollment, but I didn’t realize that it could mean that I may get more one-on-one attention form the instruction. Had I made the connection [pertaining to classroom size] prior to enrollment, it surely would have influenced me to consider Remington with more enthusiasm.
2. Price-tag. Remington’s tuition fee was higher than other colleges, but many students found the personable environment to be worth the money, especially those who feared enrolling only to discover that they would be expected to fend for themselves. Despite my satisfaction of Remington’s overall dynamics, I may have chosen to shop around for a more practical tuition fee.
3. Hands-on Learning. Remington boasts of its excellent hands-on training advantage, and for good reason; this college stands out among the rest in a spectacular way. For example, if you were to walk into the Remington nursing department blindfolded, no one could ever convince you, once the blindfold was removed, that you were not in an actual hospital. The Criminal Justice (CJ) department has a virtual gun-firing room, where CJ students can practice their shooting and reflex reaction skills. The CJ department also has a mock courtroom that is every bit as sophisticated as the mock nursing ward. My CJ class took a field trip to the county coroner’s office and were able to observe an autopsy from less than two feet away. That experience was a significant advantage that would have made me a lot more accepting of the high tuition fee had I know this during the orientation stage.
4. Transportation. The only negative thing I can say about Remington College’s Broadway Avenue branch is that it is not accommodating to those who do not drive. Public transportation ran directly in front of the college while I attended, but since then, that particular bus route has been eliminated. Remington is located on a busy four-lane road, and it is extremely unsafe to attempt to walk the half-mile from the [now] nearest bus stop, especially since that particular district is not in practice of shoveling the sidewalks. I traveled by vehicle while I attended, but I would not have enrolled had I known the bus route would be eliminated because most vehicles are not one hundred percent reliable.
5. Scheduling. Despite the bus issue, Remington does make great attempts to be considerate to the needs of everyday people. The school week lasts only four days, and the school day begins at 9:00, which gives parents time to drop their children off at school without risk of being late for their own class. Quarters last eight weeks, which makes the stretch seem less overwhelming to the more apprehensive students. I appreciate and respect the compassion that Remington renders to its students, which is yet another factor that would have counted in Remington’s favor while in my decision making process.
For those who cannot seem to be able to wrap their mind around an online learning system, or one who is apprehensive about the possible dynamics of campus life, Remington College is their ideal college.
