The nightlife at the University of Oregon is similar to many big college campuses. There are dozens of bars within a stone’s throw offering stiff drinks and outrageous specials designed to draw the college crowd in the front doors. Unlike many other campuses, though, the University is situated in a city of 160,000, which creates plenty of alternative nightlife options every day of the week. From on campus to off, here’s a look at weekly happenings on or around the University of Oregon.
Monday Quarter Beers at the Silver Dollar
While Monday might not seem like the typical party night, students who aren’t ready to let go of the weekend fun can find quite the festivities at The Silver Dollar; a strip club located just three miles west of campus. This isn’t your typical townie strip club, it’s a full-on party filled with students looking for a good time and cheap drinks. Starting at 8-pm, club goers can grab a beer for just $0.25 a pop. So if you’re in need of a Monday to Funday, grab your dollars and a roll of quarters and head west.
Tuesday Trike Rides at McShane’s
McShane’s, a large Irish pub widely unknown by the majority of the student population, is a hidden gem of Eugene thanks to their Tricycle Ride Tuesdays. Starting around 7-pm, patrons can hop on a tricycle and take a few laps around the track. Whether you’re observing from the sidelines or an active participant, the cheap drinks and good food will make for an enjoyable Tuesday night.
Wednesday Dollar Beers at Taylor’s Bar & Grill
Wednesday night is a campus crowd favorite thanks to Taylor’s unbeatable dollar beer offering. Taylor’s is the stereotypical college bar; complete with two bars, pool tables, live DJs, and a stage to dance on. You will see everyone from football players to members of Greek Life, lined up to get their hands on cheap beer. The line gets long quick, both outside to get in and inside to get a drink, so get there early and grab two at a time.
Thursday Drink Wheel at Agate Alley Bistro
Students looking for a mellow atmosphere before the debauchery of the weekend kicks in head to Agate Alley on Thursday nights for good food, good drinks, and good company. Every Thursday night at 10pm, Agate Alley rolls out their infamous Drink Wheel that has a rotating list of drink specials, everything from normal pints to Flaming Dr. Peppers. The bartenders give spin the wheel every half hour, offering up the selected drink on discount until the next spin comes around.
Friday Kick Off the Weekend at Rennie’s Landing
A longtime staple of the University of Oregon, Rennie’s Landing provides the ideal environment for students looking to put the week behind them and get the weekend started. Located directly on campus, students can exit class and post up at either of the bars on each level. The drinks are strong and the Cheesy Bacon Tots pair well with everything. For those with homework still to do, bring your computer and use the free WiFi you may even catch your graduate teaching assistant doing the same.
Saturday House Parties Reign Supreme
It wouldn’t be a college campus without house parties, and the University of Oregon isn’t lacking in home-brewed bashes. From fraternity functions to porch parties, students can grab a case of beer and wander the campus streets until they find something that suits them on Saturday nights. Just keep the containers closed while doing so because the Department of Public Safety is quick to write tickets for open containers.
Sunday Feel Better Over Breakfast at The Glenwood
After a long week of classes and an even longer weekend of going out, there is no better place to spend Sunday recovering than at The Glenwood. Located just steps from the library and Greek Row, The Glenwood is the campus favorite for breakfast. The eggs benedict is as good as the mimosas are plentiful, so fill your body and get prepared for the week ahead.
