Rowan University’s main campus in Glassboro, New Jersey offers plenty for its students to do outside of the classroom. From athletics to clubs, social events to drama and even broadcasting, the school offers a diverse activity list for its students. It has been tough, but I have shortened the list to the top 5 things you must absolutely do at Rowan University before you graduate.
Visit the Edelman Planetarium at Least Once
Yes, there is a planetarium on the main campus of Rowan in Glassboro. It is called the Edelman Planetarium. The planetarium is open to the public, to local schools, and to students of Rowan University. It offers various educational programs about the universe and updated astronomical information. This is a must-do prior to graduation. How often will you be back at Rowan after graduation to visit the planetarium? If you are looking for something to do one night, visit the planetarium. You won’t be disappointed.
Use the Rec Center
The Rec Center at Rowan University is one of the best around. Not only does it offer a traditional gym with weights, treadmills, yoga and other classes, but it also has an indoor track, basketball courts, a swimming pool, a smoothie bar and more. So, depending on your workout regimen or needs, you will be able to do just about anything when you use the center. It is available, free of charge, to all Rowan students who show a university ID upon entering.
Take Ed Streb’s Persuasion & Social Influence
One of the most challenging and informative classes you will take at Rowan is that of Ed Streb’s “Persuasion & Social Influence.” This class can be an elective for students outside of communications. You will learn quite a bit and must read the textbook if you want to come close to passing the midterm and final (the only two tests for the semester). Ed has been at Rowan for decades, and is the NCAA Faculty Athletics Representative since 1993.
Get Involved in Intramural Sports
Rowan, like most all other colleges, offers intramural sports for its students. You do not have to be a former high school athlete to enjoy these events. Even if you are a beginner at a sport, join an intramural squad and watch how much fun you will have making new friends and getting exercise. There are tournaments throughout the year you can enter and leagues you can play in throughout the semester depending on the sport you choose to play.
Work with a Knowledgeable Advisor
It is a good idea to work with a knowledgeable advisor. Now, you might be thinking, “how can a college have poor advisors?” Well, since professors are assigned as advisors to students within their degree programs, it is sometimes the luck of the draw. I had a poor advisor as a freshman, requested a change to a well-respected advisor, and had no issues during my time at Rowan. You need to work with someone who can answer all of your questions appropriately so you understand which classes are required to graduate. Rowan University offers its students plenty to do in the classroom, on the athletic fields and during social events. Take advantage of all the school has to offer by taking part in one or more of the items outlined in this post. If you do, there should be no problems with making friends, learning and having a good time while in school.
